n-Hexane 325193: Ethyl Alcohol Manufacturing 2019 18,700.00 5,674.00 -69.66 Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Enogen corn reduced our alpha requirements. More environmentally responsible because we dont have to ship a separateproduct or use plastic containers to hold it. Benefits include: Increase in yield, Reduction in energy costs, reducing gas, electricityand water consumption (This is a huge benefit for the environment), Less transportation time, due to the finished productcoming from local suppliers. Usually within minutes of the plants. Shorter transportation time of a dry product, should have areduced risk of spills vs a liquid product needing to be shipped OTR. The facility reevaluated many chemicals used when tryingto align with FSMA and moved to GRAS chemicals. 2018-02-23: Combining the 5 outfall flow meter into one meter for betteraccuracy in water usage and monitoring.MOC-CC-2017-04-13: Install bearing temp sensors on the hammermills to be displayed onthe DCS to help to prevent fires during bearing failures.MOC-CC-2018-05-17: Replace the floor in 190 proof storage tank, TF-8351from carbon steel to SS per an internal API inspection. SS will prolong the life expectancy of the floor. In 2018 also added roofstiffeners to the original 3 fermenters, 1, 2 and 6 to eliminate excess emissions from cracks in the roofs.
Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - Improving recycling efforts: Our facility operations mostly generates non-hazardous solid waste consisting of paper, plastics, scrap metals, used oils, food wastes and wooden pallets. All those generated wastes were recycled where such service isavailable. We promote consistent waste management practices throughout our company. These efforts aid in reducing theamount of waste sent to landfills. Our goal is to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfills and increase the amount ofmaterials recycled every year.
Source Reduction: Methods for Identifying Pollution Prevention Opportunities - Green Plains intends to continue to reduce its greenhouse-gas and other air emissions through adoption of new technologies, improved and more efficient operations for several years. Green plains had always maintained BACT and MACT guidance/standard mandate for air pollution control. We additionally have spent millions of dollars on environmental upgrades to reducedemissions and improved the environment. These include flue-gas scrubbers that dramatically slash emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and particulate matter, and flare-gas recovery systems that capture and recycle gases that otherwise would beflared. By maintaining our emphasis on reliability, operational excellence and enhanced incident investigations, we will continueto target best-in-class environmental performance.

Reduced use of chemicals in the cooling tower. Zero discharge facility- The water treatment system at Fairmont ethanol plant in Fairmont, MN generates no wastewater discharge, as one of the industrys first zero liquid discharge facilities. It is designed to supply the plants cooling tower, process make-up, boiler feed and fire-water needs by treating incoming well water, and recovers all plant utility water and nearly all storm water back into the water treatment system to supplement the well-water feed into the front end of the treatment plant.

All those generated wastes were recycled where such service is available. We promote consistent waste management practices throughout our company. These efforts aid in reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. Our goal is to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfills and increase the amount of materials recycled every year.Atkinson has a pretty good tote rinse and recycle practice.

Green plains had always maintained BACT and MACT guidance/ standard mandate for air pollution control. We additionally have spent millions of dollars on environmental upgrades to reduced emissions and improved the environment. These include flue-gas scrubbers that dramatically slash emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and particulate matter, and flare-gas recovery systems that capture and recycle gases that otherwise would be flared. By maintaining our emphasis on reliability, operational excellence and enhanced incident investigations, we will continue to target best-in-class environmental performance.
Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Enogen corn reduced our alpha requirements. More environmentally responsible because we dont have to ship a separate product or use plastic containers to hold it. Benefits include: Increase in yield, Reduction in energy costs, reducing gas, electricity and water consumption (This is a huge benefit for the environment), Less transportation time, due to the finished product coming from local suppliers. Usually within minutes of the plants. Shorter transportation time of a dry product, should have a reduced risk of spills vs a liquid product needing to be shipped OTR. The facility reevaluated many chemicals used when trying to align with FSMA and moved to GRAS chemicals. Wetland mitigation projects. Superior ethanol facility maintains healthy and active wetlands to support wildlife conservation.

Algae Project- As part of a two prong approach, part waste product valorization and part energyefficiency, Green Plains is developing a process that allows redirection of the corn syrup ( a dense, glycerol containing productthat is currently dried onto DDGS) to a bolt-on algae production facility. The syrup will form the base growth media in which theproprietary algae strains will be cultivated for later use in animal feed (sugar to protein). By redirecting the syrup and not havingto use conventional drying technology, Green Plains is reducing its CO2 emissions related to lower natural gas usage at itsplants.

All those generated wastes were recycled where such service is available. We promote consistent waste management practices throughout our company. These efforts aid in reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. Our goal is to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfills and increase the amount of materials recycled every year.
2018-02-23: Combining the 5 outfall flow meter into one meter for better accuracy in water usage and monitoring.MOC-CC-2017-04-13: Install bearing temp sensors on the hammermills to be displayed on the DCS to help to prevent fires during bearing failures.MOC-CC-2018-05-17: Replace the floor in 190 proof storage tank, TF-8351 from carbon steel to SS per an internal API inspection. SS will prolong the life expectancy of the floor. In 2018 also added roof stiffeners to the original 3 fermenters, 1, 2 and 6 to eliminate excess emissions from cracks in the roofs.

Green plains Shenandoah utilizes city grey water recycling system for process cooling that help facility from using around 76 million gallons of water in 2018 that otherwise would be pumped from the well. Algae Project- As part of a two prong approach, part waste product valorization and part energy efficiency, Green Plains is developing a process that allows redirection of the corn syrup ( a dense, glycerol containing product that is currently dried onto DDGS) to a bolt-on algae production facility. The syrup will form the base growth media in which the proprietary algae strains will be cultivated for later use in animal feed (sugar to protein). By redirecting the syrup and not having to use conventional drying technology, Green Plains is reducing its CO2 emissions related to lower natural gas usage at its plants.
