Pollution Prevention Activities for Selected Chemical

Reporting Year Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information*
2018 Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Chemical use is dependent on production and client requirements.

2016 Source Reduction:: W52: Modified equipment, layout, or piping[-0-4%]

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T06: Employee recommendation (under a formal company program)
W52: Replaced 5,300 gallon bulk hazardous waste storage tank with a new, 14,000 gallon tank. The gasket/seal at the rupture disk on the emergency vent system of the old tank was sometimes leaking after a waste offload. The leak rate was monitored after waste offloads, and the rupture disk was being replaced, as needed. The new hazardous waste bulk storage tank has resulted in a reduction of fugitive emissions.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Waste system components and bulk hazardous waste tank are monitored monthly for leaks using a flame ionization detector (FID). Chemical/process system components and bulk ACN tank are monitored quarterly for leaks using the FID. Incident investigations are conducted for all spills/releases involving chemicals to decrease the potential for a reoccurrence. Inspections of the bulk hazardous waste system and bulk ACN system are conducted daily. RCRA satellite accumulation areas and 90-day accumulation areas are inspected weekly. Identified leaks are repaired.

Other Environmental Practices: Energy Recovery - Bulk organic hazardous waste, solid hazardous waste, and drummed organic waste is sent off-site for energy recovery.

2008 Source Reduction:: W19: Other changes in operating practices
Source Reduction:: W55: Changed from small volume containers to bulk containers to minimize discarding
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
2007 Source Reduction:: W35: Installed vapor recovery systems
Source Reduction:: W36: Implemented inspection or monitoring program of potential spill or leak sources
