Pollution Prevention Activities for Selected Chemical

Reporting Year Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information*
2011 Source Reduction:: W58: Other process modifications
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
W58: Based on a successful trial in 2010, we expanded generation of large columns via a closed molding process. This reduced the amount of resin required to produce a column of comparable strength, thus resulting in lower emissions.

2010 Source Reduction:: W58: Other process modifications
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
Other Environmental Practices - Development began on a closed molding process for large column production that would reduce the amount of resin required to produce a column of comparable strength. Production trials are occurring in 2011.
2009 Source Reduction:: W58: Other process modifications
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
Source Reduction - Conitnuing to refine the amount of resin mix delivered per production unit to minimize resin mix use, thereby reducing the amount of TRI chemical processed per production unit. Facility is currently also evaluating the use of other production methods in order to further reduce the processing of styrene on a per production unit basis, as well as limiting the emissions thru use of closed-molding options.
2008 Source Reduction:: W58: Other process modifications
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
Source Reduction - Undertook process optimization in order to minimize resin loading.
2007 Source Reduction:: W58: Other process modifications
Source Reduction:: W61: Changed to aqueous cleaners (from solvents or other materials)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T03: Materials balance audits
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
2005 Other Environmental Practices - Styrene sent off-site for energy recovery resulted from a manfacturers delivery of off-spec styrene based resin material. The material was never used and returned by way of vendor for off-site disposal/energy recovery. This is a one time event.
