Pollution Prevention Activities for Selected Chemical

Reporting Year Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information*
2023 Source Reduction:: S44: Other improvements to operating practices and training
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
2022 Source Reduction:: S44: Other improvements to operating practices and training
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
S44: Improved training on the bulk offload process to use clean buckets to walk hoses and then the product caught in the bucket can be put into the tote, drum or tanker and not in a waste drum

Source Reduction - Ensuring employees use clean buckets when offloading trucks or batching product. This allows the residual product collected in the bucket to be sucked into the storage tank or placed into the drum or tote for sale. This has saved about 300lbs in ethylene glycol waste.
2021 Source Reduction:: S23: Implemented new technology, technique, or process
Source Reduction:: S44: Other improvements to operating practices and training
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T09: Trade association/industry technical assistance program
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
S23: Utilizing nitrogen to offload product which eliminates the losses from pumps and valves
S44: improved training on the bulk offload process to use clean buckets to walk hoses and then the product caught in the bucket can be put into the tote, drum or tanker and not in a waste drum

Source Reduction - During our daily plant tours we observed new employees not using clean buckets and placing the now contaminated product into a waste drum. This wastes product and creates unnecessary waste so the action item was to train the employees on proper production setup to reduce waste.
Source Reduction - Nitrogen was already being used to provided a nitrogen blanket on our tanks and it was recommended to use nitrogen to push products as it is inert.
