Pollution Prevention Activities for Selected Chemical

Reporting Year Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information*
2024
Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Diphenylamine is only used in products manufactured at this facility. There are no other wastes, emissions, or other "pollution" generated as a result of the use/blending of this product at this facility. As such, no further source control methods would appear to be warranted at this facility at this time.

2020 Barriers to P2 - Diphenylamine is only used in products manufactured at this facility. There are no other wastes, emissions, or other "pollution" generated as a result of the use/blending of this product at this facility. As such, no further source control methods would appear to be warranted at this facility at this time.
2019 Barriers: B7-Barriers to P2 B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies.
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Diphenylamine is only used in products manufactured at this facility. There are no other wastes, emissions, or other "pollution" generated as a result of the use/blending of this product at this facility. As such, no further source control methods would appear to be warranted at this facility at this time.

Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - No known substitutes for diphenylamine in the products manufactured at this facility.

2018 Source Reduction:: W71: Other cleaning and degreasing modifications
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T10: Vendor assistance
Barriers: B8-Barriers to P2 B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible
W71: In 2018, Decco in Monrovia, CA continued to improve upon its rinsate collection activities in the production area. Where possible, collected rinsate was re-worked into new batches of product.

Source Reduction - In 2018, Decco in Monrovia, CA continued to utilize the services of a third-party environmental consultant to assist with methods of improving material storage, management, and re-use, where possible, as well as with waste reduction opportunities.

Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - Diphenylamine (DPA) is, at this time, an irreplaceable component of the products blended, produced, packaged, and shipped from thsi facility. Until a viable substitue is available, and is EPA approved, no further reductions, other than production decreases, are anticipated.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - In 2018, Decco in Monrovia, CA continued to improve upon its rinsate collection activities in the production area. Where possible, collected rinsate was re-worked into new batches of product.

2017 Barriers: B6-Barriers to P2 B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas
Barriers: B7-Barriers to P2 B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies.

Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - All feasible source reduction and/or pollution prevention measures were previously implemented at this facility.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - All chemicals stored and used at this facility, including diphenylamine, are stored in such a manner that the potential for accidential spills or releases is minimized.

Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - The chemcial requiring TRI reporting for this facility, diphenylamine, is utilized in product formulation. Substitute not known at this time. It is noted that the volume of this chemical utilized at this facility is is directly related to customer production demands. As such, as production increases, the use of this chemical will increase as well.

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - As a part of this facility's production methods, tanks in which product has been blended are rinsed and the rinseate collected and reused in the next product batch.

2016 Barriers: B7-Barriers to P2 B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - All chemicals stored and used at this facility, including diphenylamine, are stored in such a manner that the potential for accidential spills or releases is minimized.

Source Reduction - Decco's Operations Manager worked with a third party vendor to install corrugated metal and screened walls on the exterior production area, thus preventing future potential vandalism, theft, or spills by acts of God.
Source Reduction - Diphenylamine is used in products blended by Decco at the facility. Any residue in blending tanks is rinsed with water and rinsate is held for use in blending into the next batch of product. As such, no waste diphenylamine generated in 2015.
Source Reduction - Decco's Operations Manager and Production Team, in conjunction with a third party consultant, has developed / implemented an SPCC Plan for the facility.
2014 Barriers: B7-Barriers to P2 B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies.
Other Environmental Practices - Decco uses 99.9% of dimethylamine in our product. We have implemented best practices to ensure minimal waste of raw materials, thus reducing the potential of waste material being sent to our POTW.

Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Decco uses 99.9% of dimethylamine in our product. To date, there is no alternative known. Usage is dependent upon our customers demand.
