Pollution Prevention Activities for Selected Chemical

Reporting Year Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information*
2024 Barriers: B1-Barriers to P2 B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat

Barriers to P2: B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat - Obtaining a biomass boiler would cost around 1.2 million, and we would need to build an underground storage facility for wood chips. We do not own our land, so this would be a challenge. We are investigating purchasing this property. We investigated propane boiler conversion as well, which was quoted for around $300,000, but our two boilers are from the 60's and 70's, so a retrofit would not be cost effective. When we need to purchase new boilers, we will evaluate the fuel source once again.

2023 Barriers: B1-Barriers to P2 B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat

Barriers to P2: B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat - In 2024 we are currently working with Energy Vermont to investigate switching to biomass or propane fuel. We are still awaiting their report. The cost of switching fuel is a large barrier for us, and our plant is located on land we do not own, so adding additional facilities may be an issue.

2022 Source Reduction:: S21: Optimized process conditions to increase efficiency[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T07: State government technical assistance program
Barriers: B1-Barriers to P2 B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat
S21: Working with Energy Vermont on insulation and steam reduction projects

Source Reduction - Insulation

Barriers to P2: B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat - If we could afford to convert to propane we would get off the #6 fuel oil

2021 Source Reduction:: S01: Substituted a fuel
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
S01: Considering going to propane, but there is a large capital conversion cost.

Source Reduction - Capital cost, gov't support
2019 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
W13: Pipe insulation and steam trap programs

2018 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)

2016 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
W13: Pipe insulation and steam trap programs to reduce fuel usage

2015 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
W13: Steam trap and pipe insulation programs to reduce steam/fuel usage
