Other Barriers to Source Reduction - The US Army specifies the paints to be used in painting their grenades; therefore, we do not have the option of using a paint without Xylene. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - We are trying to control the amount of paint mixed for application to grenades such that we reduce the amount of waste paint generated. In 2019, we produced no red oxide primer waste. This is the only paint component which contains xylene. |

Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Our client for the grenades is the U.S. Army. The Army has stringent specifications on finish and overall quality control. The paints used for coating the grenades, specifically the red oxide primer, contains xylene (34% by weight). The painting operation takes place in a ventilated booth which captures the fumes and overspray and utilizes best available technology filtration prior to discharging through a stack. |
