Source Reduction - Closing the Range from Jan to March has helped reduce the amount of lead introduced into the soil at our outdoor range. Source Reduction: General Environmental Management - Reducing the months of use from 12 to 9 has helped to reduce the amount of lead that was introduced into the soil. At the present time only one other local law enforcement agency utilizes the outdoor range and when possible that agency uses lead free ammunition. |

W13: The facility has reduced the number to two law enforcement agencies. Our facility and Travis County Sheriff Department. Source Reduction - Our agency does not allow the use of lead free ammo at this time. Travis County to assist will utilize lead free ammo when available for the variouis calibers they use. This has helped to reduce the amount of lead into the environment. Source Reduction - Additionally, the facility shuts down the fire range from use from January to March each year. This has assisted in reducing the amount of lead into the environment as well. Source Reduction - The facility allowed numerous local, state, and federal, law enforcement agencies utilize the outdoor rifle range in firing to maintain their qualifications. The use of lead containing ammunition was being introduced into the ground and air. The instiitution has reduced the number of law enforcement agencies who can use the range. |

Source Reduction - FCI Bastrop and Travis County utilize the range. Travis county used lead free ammo whenever possible and have stopped utilizing hand gun ammo and use rifle ammo only. Source Reduction - FCI Bastrop P2 Waste Reduction Plan at outdoor shooting range. Plan reduces the number of law enforcement agencies utilizing the range from approx. 7 to 1. Source Reduction - FCI Bastrop implemented a P2 Waste Reduction Plan to reduce the amount of lead being released into the soil at the outdoor firing range. The Environmental and Safety Compliance Department developed an excel spread sheet to monitor the amount of lead and air emissions that occur while the range is used. The P2 Plan reduced the amount of outside law enforcement agencies using the range from approximately 7 to 1 which has helped to reduce the amount of lead being introduced into the soil at the range. Travis County the only outside law enforcement agency authorized to use the range began using lead free ammunition whenever possible and have deciced to utilize rifle ammunition only and no longer use pistol ammunition. FCI Bastrop due to agency regulations at this time lead free ammunition cannot be used. From 2009 (3,342 lbs) to 2011 (1,311 lbs) the institution has done well in good faith to reduce the amount of lead being introduced into the soil at the outdoor firing range. |

W58: Received notification from the texas commission on envirionmental quality (Tceq) for the facility to develop and implement a 5 year p2 waste reduction plan. Source Reduction - The facility instituted a p2 waste reduction plan effective 11/4/2012. The plan outlines the gradual elemination of other agencies using the facilities outdoor rifle range. Source Reduction - The plan calls for a 20% reduction by 2015. Below are the goals outlined in achieving the 20%. Goal 1: 2011 - eliminating the use of the outdoor range by the texas department of criminal justice and manor police department will reduce amount of lead by removing 3,971 fired rounds and reducing approximately 72 lbs. Of lead into the environment and achieving a 2.1% reduction the first year. Goal 2: 2012 eliminating the use of the outdoor range by the texas department of public safety, williamson county, and the u.S. Marshals service will reduce the amount of lead by removing 1,759 fired rounds and reducing approximately 95 lbs. Of lead into the environment and achieving a 2.9% reduction the second year. Goal 3: 2013 travis county fired 24,050 rounds of 9m lead-Containing ammunition in 2009 into the institutionS outdoor range. Requesting the county reduce the amount of lead by half and firing 12,025 rounds of 9m lead-Free ammunition will reduce the amount of lead by removing 12,025 fired rounds and reducing approximately 197 lbs. Of lead into the environment and achieving a 6.2% reduction the third year. Goal 4: 2014 - travis county fired 7,000 rounds of 223 and 7,200 rounds of 40 caliber lead-Containing ammunition in 2009 into the institutionS outdoor range. Requesting the county reduce the amount of lead by half and firing 3,500 rounds of 223 and 3,600 rounds of 40 caliber lead-Free ammunition will reduce the amount of lead by removing 7,100 fired rounds and reducing approximately 120 lbs. Of lead into the environment and achieving a 4.0% reduction the fourth year. Goal 5: 2015 - travis county fired 1,759 rounds of 12 gauge rounds of lead-Containing ammunition in 2009 into the institutionS outdoor range. Requesting county to reduce the amount of lead by firing 1,759 rounds of 12 gauge steel shot lead-Free ammunition will reduce the amount of lead by removing 1,759 fired rounds and reducing approximately 139 lbs. Of lead into the environment and achieving a 4.8% reduction the fifth year and achieving a 20% reduction.
