2022 |
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - The plating operations were under consideration to shut down and work sent to one of our other facilities; however, the decision was reversed and the operation were continued. At the same time the work load decreased significantly and we showed a decrease in nitric acid waste for 2022. |

2021 |
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - The production in plating decreased during 2021. |
||
2020 |
Other Environmental Practices: Waste Treatment - The fumes from the corrosive tanks containing nitric acid are run through a scrubber. In 202061 pounds was scrubbed. |
||
2018 |
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - At this time the facility is in the process of expanding it capabilities and has not stabilized it's use of nitric acid used in cleaning and processing parts. In 2020, it is hoped that a pollution prevention program can be applied once all processes are operational. |

Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - The nitric acid tanks had to be changed out do the the solution becoming nonviable |

Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - We implemented a program where some of the stripping activity was re-routed to the vibratory strip line (mechanical with reduced chemical) |

W19: General housekeeping practices were encouraged to prevent spill, leaks and drips around the process tanks. Other Environmental Practices: Methods for Identifying Pollution Prevention Opportunities - We have a Continuous Improvement program at our facility. Source Reduction: General Environmental Management - Tried to improve housekeeping and controll of spills and drips. |

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management |
Source Reduction - Vibratory Strip equpiment was updated in order to use the AEP Strip line less,. Source Reduction - During 2013, the plating area began purchasing 55 gallon drums of nitric acid, in lieu of 15 gallon containers due to shipping and storage constraints. Alslo, the vibratory strip line was upgraded, but during the downtime the production was directed to the aep strip tanks, therefore more materials were purchased. Therefore, this year the acid stripping process will be monitored to track the decrease in nitric acid usage. |

Source Reduction - The strip tanks were replaced with new tanks which improved the overall spill containment and leak prevention. |
2009 | Other Environmental Practices - A target of 5% waste reduction has been set by our Management. | ||

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T06: Employee recommendation (under a formal company program)
|
Source Reduction - The AEP stripping process implemented a vibratory strip method for parts cleaning which decreased the amount of nitric acid needed. |
