2022 |
Source Reduction:: S03: Substituted raw materials, feedstock, or reactant chemical
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T03: Materials balance audits
|
S03: The use of sulfuric acid reduced the amount needed to brighten the aluminum. |
2021 |
Barriers: B8-Barriers to P2 B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible
Barriers: B3-Barriers to P2 B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. |
Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - Currently our Bright Dip operation is the only way we have to make our aluminum parts shine. Aluminum normally has a dull luster. Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - We have to substitute to Bright Dip at this time, but we are investigating options. |

2019 |
Source Reduction:: W19: Other changes in operating practices[-50-99%]
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
|
W19: Nitric acid is not in the final product, but used as a manufacturing aid. Through a formulation change, less Nitric Acid is needed to obtain the same visual part quality specifications, and subsequently less was generated for offsite transfers. Off site transfers were calculated on a 100% basis, not the net weight of the material transferred offsite. Source Reduction - The successful reduction of Nitric Acid waste sent offsite was the result of team effort, testing, and consultation with industry professionals. |

Barriers: B4-Barriers to P2 B4 - Source reduction activities were implemented but were unsuccessful.
|
Barriers to P2: B4 - Source reduction activities were implemented but were unsuccessful. - Source reduction activities were not successful in 2018, however, a 75% reduction of waste using a 100% Nitric acid bases for consistent trending was achieved in the 2019 reporting year. |
