2021
Other Environmental Practices: Energy Recovery - Waste management method energy recovery. All waste managed through energy recovery.

2020
Other Environmental Practices: Energy Recovery - Latter half of the year, waste vendors and method was switched from incineration to fuel blending for energy recovery

2012 Other Barriers to Source Reduction - The production of methylated silanes decreased in 2012 as compared to 2011.

2009 Other Environmental Practices - In our process to manufacture trimethyl silane (3MS) and monomethyl silane (1MS) we use diglyme (a glycol ether) as a solvent for carrying out the reaction. After the reaction is complete, the used diglyme and production salts is currently disposed off-site. In order to meet our commitment to reduce waste generation and disposal, we evaluated several methods for recovering and recycling the diglyme. Unfortunately, our evaluation determined that the diglyme tends to form unstable peroxides in the proposed recovery process. Futhermore, the economics also were determined to be unfavorable. We have initiated work on evaluating the feasibility of reducing the diglyme to 3MS product ratio. We propose to reduce the ratio from 2.5 lbs diglyme/lb 3MS by 10 to 20 percent. If successful, this will reduce diglyme usage and waste generation.
2008 Other Environmental Practices - In our process to manufacture trimethyl silane (3ms) we use diglyme (Certain glycol ethers) as a solvent media for carrying out the reaction. After the reaction is complete, diglyme is currently disposed off as waste. In order to meet our commitment to reduce waste generation and disposal, we evaluated several methods for recovering and recycling diglyme waste. We have identified a recovery process where diglyme likely can be recovered and recycled back to the reaction step. This would make our solvent usage a closed-Loop step. Initial Concept lab scale tests have shown promise and our goal is to carry out more detailed developmental work in the next 12 months. The solvent recovery process is a novel process and may add significant value to the overall Environmental and economic value of the process.
