Pollution Prevention Activities for Selected Chemical

Reporting Year Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information*
2024 Barriers: B1-Barriers to P2 B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat

Barriers to P2: B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat - Changing to new fuel source is very costly for us. Switching to woodchips would cost around 1.2 million, and we would need to build underground storage for the wood chips. However, we do not own the land which would make building difficult. We are in talks to purchase the land now. We also investigated retrofitting our boilers to propane, but due to the age of our boilers it would not be worth it. We will heavily investigate this when we need to replace our boilers. We have some excellent studies from Efficiency Vermont on fuel conversion, but the price us too high for us at the moment.

2023 Barriers: B1-Barriers to P2 B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat

Barriers to P2: B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat - In 2024 we are currently working with Energy Vermont to investigate switching to biomass or propane fuel. We are still awaiting their report. The cost of switching fuel is a large barrier for us, and our plant is located on land we do not own, so adding additional facilities may be an issue.

2022 Source Reduction:: S21: Optimized process conditions to increase efficiency
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T07: State government technical assistance program
Barriers: B1-Barriers to P2 B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat
S21: Working with Energy Vermont to better insulate steam piping in the plant and reduce oil consumption.

Source Reduction - Energy Vermont

Barriers to P2: B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat - If money was available we could convert to propane and get off #6 fuel oil

2021 Source Reduction:: S21: Optimized process conditions to increase efficiency
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T07: State government technical assistance program
Barriers: B1-Barriers to P2 B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat
S21: Working to improve boiler efficiency and steam system in the plant to reduce fuel oil consumption

Source Reduction - Energy Vermont

Barriers to P2: B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat - We could convert to propane which is cleaner, but the cost is about $400,000

2019 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
W13: Steam trap and pipe insulation programs

2018 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
W13: Pipe insulation and steam trap maintenance programs

2017 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
W13: Steam trap and pipe insulation programs

Other Environmental Practices - Facility is considering converting to propane to fire the boilers
2016 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
W13: Pipe insulation and steam trap program

Other Environmental Practices - Facility is considering a conversion to propane to fire the boiler
2015 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
W13: Pipe insulation and steam trap program to help reduce oil consumption
