Pollution Prevention Activities for Selected Chemical
Reporting Year | Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity | Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity | Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information* |

2022 |
Source Reduction:: S21: Optimized process conditions to increase efficiency
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
|
S21: Decommissioned one obsolete plating line, with another approaching end of life. We intend to replace them both with a single, higher capacity state-of-the-art line that will increase output and decrease waste. |
2021 |
Source Reduction:: S31: Instituted better labeling, testing, or other inventory management practices
Source Reduction:: S04: Substituted manufacturing aid, processing aid, or other ancillary chemical |
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s) |
S04: Several acid activator tanks (sulfuric, hydrochloric) were converted to a specialized acid etch with extended bath life on lines 1 and 8 S31: Initiated a SIOP (Sales, Inventory, Operations, Planning) project improved productivity and decreased E&O (excess and obsolete) inventory. Source Reduction - Cross functional team representing all departments. Source Reduction - By extending bath life this reduced the amount of copper containing waste corrosive liquids. |

Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - AN ENHANCE4D GRADIENT DRAGOUT SYSTEM CONSERVES PLATING CHEMICALS, INCLUDING PRECIOUS METALS BY PROVIDING A SERIES OF TANKS WITH CASCADING RINSE SOLUTIONS HAVING A FLOW RATE CONTROLLED BY HEATING THE FIRST TANK TO INCREASE THE EVAPORATION RATE . A PORTION OF THE CONCENTRATED SOLUTION IN THE HEATED TANK IS RETURNED TO THE PROCESS TANK. THE SYSTEM MINIMIZES THE REQUIREMENTS FOR CLEAN RINSE WATER, AND THE NEED FOR EMPTYING CONTAMINATED RINSE TANKS WITH ASSOCIATED RECOVERY AND DISPOSAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND COST ISSUES. THE LOW COST SYSTEM IS FLEXIBLE AND THE PROCESS IS ADAPTED TO THE MATERIAL AND PROCESS REQUIREMENTS OF THE PLATING LINES. ALL PLATING TANKS HAS AIR KNIVES, SPONGE ROLLER AND FLOW RESTRICTORS. |

Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Interplex is a "Job Shop" Connector House. Our work flows and process flows are defined by our diverse customer base. Each customer has a unique and defined process flow which may use a variety of different chemical solution. These job opportunities do not always followed a repeatable schedule and because of this, Interplex's year to year chemical usages are not always very predictable and repeatable |
