Barriers: B7-Barriers to P2 B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. |
Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - Aluminum, the only hazardous substance used at the facility and in the Production process, cannot be substituted in the rail welding product, as it is the material used in the product. No additional technical or economic justification is possible. Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Aluminum, the only hazardous substance used at the facility and in the Production process, cannot be substituted in the rail welding product, as it is the material used in the product. Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - Aluminum is the primary component of the product. No known substitutes are available. Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - Previously implemented: (1) An evaluation to determine if it is possible to improve the current storage methods to minimize/eliminate spills, releases or other losses of aluminum, (2) An evaluation to determine if it is possible to improve the current handling and loading methods to minimize/eliminate spills, releases or other losses of aluminum, (3) A modification to the Pollution Prevention Operator Training Program was/will be developed and implemented. The program will include on-going refresher training, and (4) Current housekeeping practices were reviewed and appropriate revisions implemented. Recycling of waste material were be highlighted. Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Aluminum is the primary component of the product. No known substitutes are available. |

Source Reduction - Storage, Handling and Loading Procedures were reviewed in November 2009. There is a rare occurrence of spills and that material is only handled inside a building which would contain the spill (no liquids present). Only 3 personnel are authorized to unload and move Al. Therefore, no revisions were needed to the Storage, Handling and Loading Procedures. |
