|
Other Environmental Practices: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - Recycling of toluene within the process has been implemented but not used in 2015 due to the limited amount of pilot plant operations. As seen in Columns C and D of Section 8.4, we anticipate beginning recycling onsite in 2016 and 2017 as the pilot plant operations increase |

Barriers: B6-Barriers to P2 B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas
Barriers: B7-Barriers to P2 B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. |
Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - Recycling of toluene is possible but only used should the making of commercial product be necessary. There was no commercialization in 2014. For R&D purposes virgin toluene is the preferred option to ensure there are no contaminants which could negatively impact R&D results. Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Toluene is currently uses as a processing aid in the making of catalyst product and a less hazardous substance for this process has not been identified. |
|
2013 |
Other Environmental Practices - The pilot plant has the ability to recycle tolune in a closed loop system. However, the ability to recycle depends on the product research that is taking place. Due to potential cross contamination issues associated with the R&D product mix in 2013, recycling of toluene was not a viable option.
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Substitute for toluene has not been identified. |
||
2012 |
Other Environmental Practices - The pilot plant has previously implemented the in-line recycling of toluene directly to the R&D process. As such, the amount of toluene inventory and waste generated has been reduced.
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - The R&D pilot plant had previously implemented a source reduction activity by the recycling of toluene (in-process). There have not been any additional reduction opportunities defined for implementation in year 2012 and as such, there are no barriers. |

Source Reduction:: W51: Instituted recirculation within a process
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T06: Employee recommendation (under a formal company program)
|
Source Reduction - An in-line toluene recovery system was implemented to reuse recovered toluene as a raw material in the process rather than generate it as waste. |
