Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
|
S35: We segregated the copper plate-out sludge from copper electropolish which was put with the F006 Hazardous waste sludge. Segregating it makes it non-hazardous & it will be sent out for copper recovery Source Reduction - Segregating the copper plate-out from electropolish making it non-hazardous & it will no longer be in the F006 sludge. Will be sent out for metals recovery Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - Recovered copper out of electropolish |

W58: Implemented carbon treating of copper baths to extend there life. Equipment built to facilitate this operation. W72: Added misting blowoffs to prevent salts from clogging the blowoffs Source Reduction - Copper salt purchases down Source Reduction - Copper salt purchases are way down with less dragout Source Reduction - Less dumping of copper baths Source Reduction - Environmental team meets every other week Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - All copper F006 sludge is 100% recycled for metals recovery |
2018 |
Source Reduction:: W74: Improved application techniques[-5-14%]
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
|
W74: Copper plating baths are periodically carbon treated off line to remove organic contamination & extend the life of the bath. New equipment for implementing this process will be built in 2019. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - All sludge generated is 100% recycled for metals recovery Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Misting blowoffs are used to minimize drag out. |
2017 |
Source Reduction:: W64: Improved draining procedures
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
|
W64: Automatic blow off mist clean outs were installed in copper blow-offs on a large production line. This replaced a operator every 30 min. check off list as a manual clean off, which wasn't being done properly or as stated on the check sheet. Source Reduction - Reduced copper sulfate usage on that line by 79%. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - All 006 sludge from the plating operation is 100% recycled for metals recovery. The copper metal contained & recovered from the sludge is paid for on a lot by lot analysis. The sampling may not be homogeneous & results in fluctuation in copper pounds reported. This years analysis was significantly higher then what was reported last year but is in line with previous years. |

Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - We use reclaim drag outs that are added back to the bath & cascading rinses where ever feasible. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - The copper in the F006 sludge & F007 / F009 solution sent off site is 100% recycled & we are paid for the copper value in the sludge. |

Source Reduction - We are in the process of being ISO 14000 certified & our entire environmental compliance system has been audited & revised. This required source reduction & recycling audits & activities. The continued use of cascading counter flow rinses, low flow spray nozzles & air blow offs have reduced water usage & copper dragout. |
2009 | Source Reduction - Total Release Quantity continues to drop in 2009 as nickel is increasingly being used in place of copper.
2008 | Source Reduction - Copper total release quantity dropped in 2008 due to many clients transitioning to nickel.
2005 | Other Environmental Practices - Section 8.8 is zero .We had a fire on 10/24/06. All water from the fire was contained within the building. The water was tested and approved by the potw for treatment in our treatment center. Treatment water is sent to the potw. |
