2021 | Barriers to P2 - The facility wastewater pretreatment permit has set limits for Total Suspended Solids and limits for other analytes that require the most effective solids removal possible. Therefore, there is no realistic methods of reducing the filter press solids (presscake) that are disposed in association with wastewater pretreatment at the facility. | ||

Barriers to P2: B5 - Specific regulatory/permit burdens. - The facility wastewater pretreatment permit has set limits for Total Suspended Solids and limits for other analytes that requires the most effective removal of solids possible. Therefore, there is no real way to reduce the filter presscake solids disposal associated with wastewater pretreatment at the facility. |

Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - Arsenic from the SCR Catalyst (catalyst used for removal of air contaminants at coal-fired power generation facilities) regeneration process comes from the fly ash being cleaned off the catalyst. The process is designed to remove as much of each contaminant from the catalyst as possible, thus removing less arsenic would entail removing less fly ash which is counter intuitive to the entire process of cleaning the catalyst for reuse. It is important to note that the amount of arsenic in fly ash varies depending on the source of the coal being burned. |

Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Arsenic is an impurity received as a result of coal ash coming to us in SCR catalyst from our customers. We have no control over the amount that comes to us from our customers, and we must remove as much of the coal ash as possible to effectively regenerate the catalyst. |
