Do not mix hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. Evaluate procedures to see if a less hazardous or a non-hazardous materials can be substituted. Centralize purchasing of chemicals within the department or craft. Date all paintl containers when received so that the older chemicals will be used first. (Batch Numbers) Inventory coatings and identify their location at least quarterly. Purchase coatings in the smallest quantities needed. Do not over purchase coatings Label all coating containers to prevent the generation of unknowns. |

Source Reduction - Making changes in operation work practices minimized pollutants at the source and increased production efficiency. By evaluating and improving work practices, operations can decrease emissions, reduce production costs, and protect employee and public health. Below listed P2 paint application wastes include leftover paints, dirty thinner from cleaning spray guns and paint cups, air emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), dirty blast house filters, dirty rags, and disposal of out-dated supplies. Ways we reduced these wastes included rigid inventory control, better housekeeping practices, mixing paint according to need, better operator training, proper cleaning methods, using alternative coatings, using mess filters, recycling solvents on and off site, and using waste exchanges. |

Source Reduction - Implementation of a computer based inventory and issuing system for paint department. also implemented weekly/monthly paint department audits specifically in the ordering/issuing/process areas ofthe department. Aslo initiated new standard operating proceedures for paint issue/receipt/and waste protocols. |
