W74: Installed new saturator that uses new technology to apply coating more efficiently. W78: Contractor designed and built a new drying and curing oven that reduces fugitive emissions. Source Reduction - Implemented more efficient drying and curing process. Source Reduction - 2019 was a year of trial runs. Source Reduction - Contractor designed and built a new and more efficient process. |
2014 |
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Other chemical substitutes exist but in a more costly and less effective resin system. Customers aren't willing to take on the added cost at the current time. |

W49: Over the last couple of years, we have added more urea to our chemistry. Urea is a benign filler that in our case adds the benefit of scavanging free formaldehyde, thus reducing the amount of formaldehyde air emissions. Source Reduction - We have a corporate edict in place to remove formaldehyde from our resin chemistry, but our customers aren't entirely supportive because the current alternatives offer equal to or less performance and with higher costs. Nonetheless, we are keeping at the efforts to eventually go in that direction. |

Source Reduction - Early in 2011, we made a resin switch that resulted in less overall formaldehyde being entered into the process. The resin chemistry is basically the same but with a lower ratio of formaldehyde. Corporate Executive Team is trying to get formaldehyde out of our resins by 2014. |

Source Reduction - Formaldehyde is in our solvent-based resins. The market and our company outlook is favoring more and more latex / water-based replacements. This is eliminating some of our solvent-based / formaldehyde production usage. |
