Other Environmental Practices: Waste Treatment - Ross Incineration Services, Inc. (RIS) is a RCRA Part B Permitted Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility which engages in commercial hazardous waste incineration as its primary method of treatment to reduce both the quantity and hazards associated with industrial waste from off-site generators. By nature, incineration reduces a chemicals ignitability, toxicity, and reactivity, while reducing the potential for toxic chemicals to enter the environment. Some wastes which RIS receives for treatment contain amounts of EPCRA Section 313 constituents. EPCRA Section 313 constituent levels that RIS reports fluctuate due to waste composition and receipt frequency, which changes year over year. RIS achieves greater than 99.99% destruction removal efficiency for any organic constituents which it treats, including EPCRA Section 313 chemicals. To further eliminate the potential for toxic chemicals to enter the environment, RIS has programs in place such as a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, Contingency Plan and a Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plan. RIS is ISO 14001/45001 certified and has a formal Waste Minimization Program to reduce wastes, while increasing recycling/reuse practices. While RIS primary storage activities are associated with the incineration of waste and are reported accordingly, certain amounts of wastes which arrive on site are stored prior to shipment to another facility without repackaging. Per EPAs Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics EPCRA Section 313 Industry Guidance, RCRA Subtitle C TSD Facilities and Solvent Recovery Facilities, dated January 1999; storage, relabeling, or redistribution of an EPCRA Section 313 chemical where no repackaging occurs does not constitute manufacturing, processing, or otherwise use of that chemical. As such, RIS has not included EPCRA Section 313 chemicals managed in this way in its reported quantities for otherwise use. |
