Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - Fish-eyes within our products forced the production line to utilize the solvent for cleaning. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Working to reduce the amount of solvent being used in the facility for cleaning. Now that the fish-eye defect source has been located and actions to control have been taken. |

W42: Switched to alternative cleaning solvents. The chemical will still be needed as part of the formula Source Reduction - Study was conducted and completed in early 2017 to find a new cleaning solvent that is non hazardous and can be left in the waste stream and completely recycled without any additional chemical or physical processing. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - With the substitution of a non hazardous material to clean instead of the original solvent helped with reduction in hazardous waste sent out. |
2016 |
Barriers: B3-Barriers to P2 B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction.
|
Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - In reporting year 2015 and up till May-June of 2016 the facility had eliminated this solvent as a cleaner in one of the facility's major processes. Quality issues presented themselves in early 2016 and the decision to return to the old more hazardous cleaning chemical was made in order to eliminate the quality issue. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - Study was conducted and completed in early 2017 to find a new cleaning solvent that is non-hazardous and can be left in the waste stream and completely recycled without any additional chemical or physical processing. The results from this work will not be in effect till later 2017 or into 2018. |

Source Reduction - There are many cleaning solutions now on the market that can perform just as well or better than the Xylene mixture being used currently. A non hazardous cleaning solution was substituted and is went through plant trials. Source Reduction - Some research and test were conducted to show that a non hazardous cleaning solution could be used in place of Xylene. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - With the substitution of a non hazardous material to clean instead of the original solvent helped with reduction in hazardous waste sent out. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - A second still was added that also caused more solvent to be recycled than released. |
