Pollution Prevention Activities for Selected Chemical
Reporting Year | Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity | Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity | Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information* |
---|---|---|---|
2020 |
Source Reduction:: W52: Modified equipment, layout, or piping[-50-99%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)

2019 |
Source Reduction:: W82: Modified design or composition of product
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T10: Vendor assistance
W82: Continued to use the scrap core reclaimer to minimize core sand to the landfill. This also minimizes our purchased core sand by 9% Reclaiming core sand is reused in the process up to 20%. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - Recycling core sand back into the process up to 20% |
2018 |
Source Reduction:: W52: Modified equipment, layout, or piping[-25-49%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
W52: Installed a new scrap core reclaimer, reducing core sand waste to landfill (per net production ton) by 26.6%, and reduced purchased sand resource consumption by 9%. |
2016 |
Source Reduction:: W19: Other changes in operating practices[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
W19: 4th quarter 2016: Switched from sub-angular grain lake sand to round grain silica sand. Round grain sand requires less part 2 resin, the production component that contains diisocyanates, while creating a stronger bond, resulting in less scrap. The combination of less resin and less scrap should result in less diisocyantes. Source Reduction - This was the result of an investigation into the reduction of scrap and resin consumption. Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Core Sand Waste Reduction to levels less than 2016 by the end of calendar year 2017 is an Environmental Objective for 2017. Employee training has been issued and we are monitoring the success in achieving the target. |
