Source Reduction:: W56: Reduced or eliminated use of an organic solvent[-50-99%]

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
|
Source Reduction: Source Reduction - We have continued to work with our paint suppliers to only use formulas with non listed HAPS or very low quantities that still allow the coating to achieve the required coverage and durability for our product. We continue to implement this in any of the coatings we purchase or use. |
2017 |
Source Reduction:: W73: Substituted coating materials used[-50-99%]

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)

W73: Changed paints to zero or lowered Xylene content.Again this year our Xylene use is well below the 10,000# reporting threshold. We are filing a Form R anyway to demonstrate that our reduction efforts have been paying off. We reduced it to 2,945# for 2017 from 7,082# in 2016. This was achieved after working with our supplier and chemist as well as extensive testing on our part. We were able to switch to a HAPS free and low VOC product that accounts for 77% of the product used. We fully expect these numbers to decline in 2018 as we are switching over most of the 33% remaining product. In 2019 we should have a full year of using low HAPS or HAPS free products. Even with an increase in our business and an increase in the product used, we were able to reduce our Xylene levels by 58% from the 2016 year. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Our Xylene use is below the 10,000# reporting threshold for reporting. We are filing a Form R to demonstrate that after extensive testing, our reduction efforts have been paying off. Contributing factors to the reduction are a decrease in the amount of paint that was used, as well as switching in August to a replacement paint for our highest volume coating, that contains no reportable haps. We anticipate that our Xylene use for 2017 will be decreased even further when we have a full year?s use of this replacement paint. |

Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Powder coating by outside vendors on more items, which eliminates spray coating by us and some Xylene usage. Still testing other paints that do not contain or have a reduced amount of Xylene. Dry to handle time is our big hurdle. |

W73: Powder coating some products which eliminated Xylene. Also tried some other types of paints that did not contain Xylene, or greatly reduced the amount of Xylene. Sample pieces are being tested for adherence and durability. W75: By changing to powder coating on some additional and new products we eliminated spray painting, which eliminated Xylene Source Reduction - Desired to reduce the amount of Xylene used and provide a more durable finish for those products. |

W73: Able to change the finish on some product items to powder from liquid paint that contains Xylene. W75: This eliminated the spray painting, which eliminated the release of Xylene from the liquid paint to the air. Miscellaneous - This was implemented and driven by management and employees desire to aid production, reduce the amount of Xylene released, and provide a durable finish. |
2011 | Other Environmental Practices - We are reporting due to an increase in our business for the year 2011. We are currently looking at different options to reduce our use of Xylene. We are working with our paint supplier to utilize different non listed solvents, and we are also exploring powder coat systems. |
