Upgrades to Ultra LowNOx burners in the Thermal Oxidizer systems were previously completed. This facility recycles solid wastes for all availableproducts. This facility eliminated the use of anhydrous ammonia due to the potential significant risk to people and theenvironment by switching to a different pH control system and different enzymes. Green plains Shenandoah utilizes city greywater recycling system for process cooling that help facility from using around 75-100 million gallons of water annually thatotherwise would be pumped from the well. Barriers to P2: B5 - Specific regulatory/permit burdens. - Ethanol production is regulated by TTB and EPA and specifications for fuel grade ethanol are regulated by both agencies. Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Enogen corn reduced our alpha requirements. More environmentally responsible because we dont have to ship a separateproduct or use plastic containers to hold it. Benefits include: Increase in yield, Reduction in energy costs, reducing gas, electricityand water consumption (This is a huge benefit for the environment), Less transportation time, due to the finished productcoming from local suppliers. By redirecting the syrup and not havingto use conventional drying technology, Green Plains is reducing its CO2 emissions related to lower natural gas usage at itsplants. Green plains had always maintained BACT and MACT guidance/standard mandate for air pollution control. We additionally have spent millions of dollars on environmental upgrades to reducedemissions and improved the environment. These include flue-gas scrubbers that dramatically slash emissions of sulfur dioxide,nitrogen oxide and particulate matter, and flare-gas recovery systems that capture and recycle gases that otherwise would beflared. By maintaining our emphasis on reliability, operational excellence and enhanced incident investigations, we will continueto target best-in-class environmental performance.
