S04: We are using a corrosive agent to clean piping and tanks after batches. We also use a non-hazardous cleaner for smaller parts. |

S04: MGK has an ongoing initiative to substantially reduce MeCl as its cleaning solvent. We have identified Keylajet (manufactured by Alconox) as the replacement solution. We are targeting a multi ton reduction in MeCl use in 2023. Source Reduction - MGK wants a safer (non-toxic) cleaning process for all employees. Source Reduction - MGK will be an area source of HAPs with the reduction in MeCl use. MGK is currently trying to renew its air permit application with MPCA. |

W61: MGK has an ongoing initiative to eliminate MeCl as its cleaning solvent. We have identified Keylajet (manufactured by Alconox) as the replacement solution. We are targeting a multi ton reduction in MeCl use over the next year. Source Reduction - MGK wants a safer (non-toxic) cleaning process for all employees. Source Reduction - MGK can get out of a Title V air permit if we can eliminate/reduce MeCl use. MGK is currently trying to renew its air permit application with MPCA. |

Barriers: B3-Barriers to P2 B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction.
|
Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - Cross contamination could occur if cleaning activities change. We are required to abide by FIFRA regulations. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - We have evaluated going back to recycling, but corrosion in the system made it cost prohibitive. |

Barriers: B3-Barriers to P2 B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. |
W19: Continue to evaluate reduction activities. Source Reduction - Continue to evaluate reduction activities. Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - We are obligated to triple rinse all equipment due to FIFRA regulations. Alternate chemicals are typically highly flammable (such as acetone). Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - MGK is evaluating buying back recycled Methylene Chloride from WRR. |

|
Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - We use dichloromethane to rinse equipment in order to meet FIFRA regulations. Business growth in production requires us to rinse more frequently between batches. Therefore, we cannot make a reduction. |

2016 |
Source Reduction:: W14: Changed production schedule to minimize equipment and feedstock changeovers
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
|
W14: We continuously attempt to improve our operations. There were more batches made this year but we did not increase rinses between batches due to improved management. |
2015 |
Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-15-24%]
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
|
Source Reduction: Source Reduction - We validated our rinse procedures to minimize the number of rinse cycles implemented. Some formulations only require 2 rinses in order to meet the regulatory definition of clean. Source Reduction: Ways P2 Was Incorporated in Original Process Design - Rinses can initially be done with water for some formulations and followed up with dichloromethane. This reduces the total number of rinsations |
2014 |
Source Reduction:: W56: Reduced or eliminated use of an organic solvent[-5-14%]
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T07: State government technical assistance program
|
Source Reduction: Source Reduction - We used an intern from the MN Technical Assistance Program to verify the number of rinses required after each type of formulation. This allowed us to reduce the usage in some cases. |
2013 |
Other Environmental Practices - Note that all Dichloromethane sent off-site is recycled and sold by W
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Source reduction activities are still being used that were initiated last year. However, the priority is to maintain a clean system in order to comply with FIFRA regulations. |
