Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - we have implemented production changes in prior years - automated dispensing operations and manufacturing in sales containers to reduce tank cleaning - and do not have any new ideas on reductions for these chemicals |
2020 | Other Environmental Practices - in past years we have implemented a variety of waste reduction procedures and these are all in place and working. No new procedures were done in 2020. | ||
2019 |
Source Reduction:: W83: Modified packaging[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
W83: Outsourced the packaging of this chemical to a distribution partner. Previously some usage of Glycol Ether was just repackaging from drums to pails. This is now outsourced. |
2018 |
Source Reduction:: W52: Modified equipment, layout, or piping[-50-99%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
W52: Continued use of automated dispensing equipment to make paint batches. Plus, using sealed drums to mix product. Old way was manual adding materials in open tanks with mixing. This has reduced solvent evaporation times and reduced emmisons.also, we have reduced the use of tanks to make batches and make batche sin same drums we sell product in. This has reduced cleaning of tanks with solvents |

W58: Converted majority of paint and stain production to an automated dispense system which allows us to make paint directly in the drum or pail that we ship. this avoids using intermediate tanks that require cleaning and have product left behind. This cleaning stage has been eliminated.also, paint draining between filling runs is reworked into a similar color and no longer disposed. Source Reduction - Improvements were implemented in 2016 on paint production and 2017 on stain production. |
2016 |
Source Reduction:: W19: Other changes in operating practices[-5-14%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
W19: In 2015, we eliminated the use of glycol ethers for cleaning between batches. This eliminates a waste stream and eliminate fugitives emissions Source Reduction - waste reduction team input Source Reduction: Source Reduction - 2016 shows an increase in our releases of Gycol Ethers. This is driven by the calculation of extra usage of the chemical multiplied by our emission factor. The factory implemented a number of initiative sin 2015 that are ongoing and have reduced the usage and emissions of glycol ethers elsewhere. The numbers presented in this report are a function of volume being used and that is increasing with increasing business. |
2015 |
Source Reduction:: W14: Changed production schedule to minimize equipment and feedstock changeovers[-50-99%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management

W14: batch sizes have been optimized to reduce cleaning of process equipment. Source Reduction - Changes to our color paint production have been made where we now make colors in the shipping containers - using automated dispensing equipment - has reduced tank cleaning - which did use wash solvents. This has reduced amount of tanks being cleaned which reduces solvent waste and emissions from cleaning. Other Environmental Practices: Methods for Identifying Pollution Prevention Opportunities - Ideas for waste reduction are generated by safety committee and waste reduction team Source Reduction: Source Reduction - We have changed procedures and eliminated the use of Glycol Ethers for any cleaning activities. In the past, we would clean process equipment with Glycol Ethers and this would be a component in off-site waste disposal streams - solvent and paint related waste. This is no longer a component. We have also implemented new equipment to automate paint production which reduces the mixing times which reduces the fugitive emissions. We still use old emissions factors but we have reduced mix time significantly.. Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T06: Employee recommendation (under a formal company program) |
Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - We implemented a system to recycle partial paint and paint leftovers into new production batches Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Modified production process to use automatic dispense equipment versus making batches in mix tanks |

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Source Reduction - In previous years, Glycol Ethers were used for tank cleaning and was solvent. These were processed in the recovery solvent still . Some glycol ethers were produced as still bottoms and disposed off site. In 2013, Glycol Ethers are no longer used as wash solvents. Therefore, no solvent recycle and no sludge bottoms as waste disposal |
