W58: The Comparable Fuels Vacatur was implemented at the Plant. Hazardous Materials were no longer allowed to be used for on-site energy recovery, therefore our ethyl benzene emissions are near zero pounds. |

Other Environmental Practices - Reference to SARA 313 On-Site Energy for Recovery: The AmSty plant was mandated to stop burning hazardous tars due the 'Comparable Fuel Vacatur'regulatory rule as energy recovery. The AmSty plant met this regulatory rule before the mandated date of April 1st of 2015. Therefore, we have conducted an engineering review in which we have collected the following data to meet compliance. We have recorded actual Total Waste burned and collected samples to analyze the specific content of our hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste. Results for on-site energy recovery of hazardous waste were calculated, speciated and recorded in our 2015 SARA 313 Emissions Report. The AmSty plant was in compliance by March 24, 2015.
Other Environmental Practices: B5 - Specific regulatory/permit burdens. - The Comparable Fuels Exemption, 40 CFR 261.4(a)(16) and 261.38, which allowed the site to burn hazardous tars as a fuel in the Dowtherm Heaters was vacated by the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit effective March 31, 2015. In anticipation of the vacature of the rule, Americas Styrenics analyzed its process and has made the changes necessary to ensure that no hazardous wastes are burned at the Joliet Site following the vacatur rule. Styrene has been converted into a recycle by-product where surplus material was sent off site for energy recovery. Rinceco has processed this material for us which indicated a significant increase in Energy Recovery off-site.
