2017 |
Source Reduction: Source Reduction - We are attempting to reduce glycol ether in our production process by eliminating or reducing process chemical use that contains glycol ether. This is the main reason for the 44% drop in glycol ether use in 2017. |

2016 |
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - We are working with both our production staff and janitorial, to reduce the amount of cleaning solution in our floor scrubbers. A dry removal is also being looked into for our dry color area to keep the area clean. This should lessen the use of floor cleaning and reduce the use of Glycol Ether used in the floor cleanser. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Process chemicals, containing Glycol Ether used in the formulation of our product were reduced in 2014. Other Environmental Practices: Waste Treatment - Glycol Ether sent to the POTW increased in 2014 due to increased housekeeping and the amount of floor cleaning. Since all Glycol Ether used in the floor cleaning process are discharged in one of our waste streams, ether the POTW for treatment or the landfill. The change in percent of Glycol Ether sent to the POTW vs. the landfill in 2014 verses previous years is due to the waste salvage presses having lower solids per press cleaning. With less solids to retain Glycol Ether for the landfill more is sent to the POTW. |

W82: Floor soap formulation continues to be altered to reduce glycol ether use. Source Reduction - Employees use less soap and more water when cleaning floors. Source Reduction - Apollo Colors Inc. continued to reduce glycol ethers in its floor soap through formulation changes. Better work practices also contributed to a cleaner workplace which reduced the need for some floor cleaning. |

W82: Reduced cleaning materials components containing glycol ether. Source Reduction - Reduced floor cleaning time. Source Reduction - Apollo Colors reduction in glycol ether consumption occurred mainly due to changes in the work week and reduction in cleaning materials containing glycol ether. In 2011 operations at Apollo Colors went from a 24/7 work week to a modified 24/5 day operation. This reduced floor cleaning by approximately 28%. |
