Other Environmental Practices - As noted in last year's report, at the end of 2011 Willert removed its remelting equipment which had been used to recycle contaminated 1,4-dichlorobenzene. Therefore, 2012 was our first full year of operation without the remelting/recycling process. Our goal is to reduce generation of contaminated 1,4-dichlorobenzene in the first place through continued improvements to our production process, maintenance, and housekeeping procedures. As a result, we were able to cut in half the amount of contaminated 1,4-dichlorobenzene requiring recycling or disposal as hazardous waste. Our process now systematically incorporates the 1,4-dichlorobenzene into the manufacture of toilet bowl deodorizer products. |
2011 | Source Reduction - During 2011 Willert continued its program, begun in 2010, to reduce the amount of 1,4-dichlorobenzene recycled onsite. The program includes improved maintenance and housekeeping procedures, which have resulted in less contaminated 1,4-dichlorobenzene that requires recycling or disposal as hazardous waste. As a further step in our improvement program, at the end of 2011 Willert removed its remelting equipment which had been used to recycle contaminated 1,4-dichlorobenzene. Our new process incorporates the 1,4-dichlorobenzene into the manufacture of toilet bowl deodorizer products. | ||

|
Source Reduction - During 2010 Willert instituted a program to reduce the amount of 1,4-dichlorobenzene recycled onsite. This involved improved maintenance procedures which led to a reduced amount of contaminated 1,4-dichlorobenzene that needed to be recycled. The amount of material recycled in 2010 vs. 2009 was reduced from 150,000 lbs. to 50,000 lbs. Willert plans to continue these procedures in the future to maintain reduced levels of onsite recycling. |
