Source Reduction: Source Reduction - The formulas for the products produced by LHB are controlled by the U.S. Department of Defense. Any modifications to reduce the amount of toxic chemical use would be a violation of federal specifications.

Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Products are sold to military. Changing formulation to reduce pollution would be a violation of contract and required specification of our products.

Barriers to P2: Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feasible. - In order to minimize pollution LHB Industries utilizes a solvent recovery distillation unit. For RY2016 the mass of Toluene recycled was over 1,000 pounds more than our off-site transfers. All of our off site transfers are sent for energy recovery in order to make the best possible use of them. Additionally, LHB Industries past source reduction steps have included changes to less toxic solvents. However, at this time, there does not appear to be a technically & financially feasible substitute for Toluene in some of our formulations.

Barriers to P2: Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feasible. - In order to minimize pollution, the operations at LHB Industries currently included the use of a solvent recovery distillation unit. For RY2015 the mass of Toluene recycled was equivalent to our off-site releases. All off-site releases are sent for energy recovery in order to make the releases as "useful" as possible. Additionally, LHB Industries has switched to less toxic solvents however at this time there does not appear to be a technically & financially feasible substitute for Toluene in some of our formulations.
