2021 |
Source Reduction:: S13: Modified product packaging[-50-99%]
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
|
S13: Rather than repackaging the material at the facility, the company utilized direct shipments from manufacturer to end-user thus reducing fugitive emissions and potential accidental spills. Source Reduction - The company sought agreements for chemical material direct shipments to reduce repackaging efforts. Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Company customers continue to seek smaller packages such as drums and totes rather than receive full tankers. As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, we anticipate increased activity with this material based on consumer demands. |
2020 |
Source Reduction:: W51: Instituted recirculation within a process
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management Barriers: B7-Barriers to P2 B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. |
W51: Instituted hose connections and container closures that reduce fugitive vapor emissions. Source Reduction - During scheduled team member meetings, pollution reduction ideas and recommendations were sought by senior management. Source Reduction - Internal pollution reduction audit revealed alternative procedures. Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Currently, there are no substitutes for chemical materials. Green alternatives have been evaluated. |
2018 |
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Production is based on customer demand. Thus it was not feasible for a decrease. Alternative options are being sought including purchasing material already packaged rather than repackaging from tanker to containers. Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Purchasing the material pre-packaged in containers is an option being utilized in 2019. |

2017 |
Source Reduction:: W21: Instituted procedures to ensure that materials do not stay in inventory beyond
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T03: Materials balance audits
|
W21: Utilization of FIFO assisted in reducing unnecessary waste generation. In addition, material is purchased as needed based on customer demands. Source Reduction - Quarterly audits are utilized ot determine current and future customer purchasing trends. This determines the amount of material that will be purchased and stored at the facility. |
2016 |
Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-15-24%]

W13: ACL continues to improve its inventory accountability system. This has assisted in reducing the amount of material that is manufactured on site. Source Reduction - Continued internal audits identify properly handling and management of the glycol and other chemical products. Source Reduction - ACL management and employees have continued their commitment to protecting the environment through training, production management techniques, and providing comparable alternatives. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - ACL has been proactive in seeking green alternatives to the products produced. Research and networking efforts will continue to significantly reduce or eliminate this material. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - During production, efforts are made to recycle all material brought into the facility. Rinsate from transfer hoses are collected in totes and provided to customers as a diluted form of the original material. This technique has assisted in the reduction of waste management. |
2015 |
Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-0-4%]
Source Reduction:: W24: Instituted better labeling procedures[-0-4%] Source Reduction:: W32: Improved procedures for loading, unloading, and transfer operations[-0-4%] |

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - We continue to work with our customers and manufactures in finding alternative green chemical options based on the use of the material. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - Our efforts of collecting residue from transfer hoses continues. Collected residue is placed on a drum or tote and the recycled material is offered to customers who can place it in production. These efforts continue to diminish our waste generation. |
2014 |
Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-25-49%]
Source Reduction:: W32: Improved procedures for loading, unloading, and transfer operations Source Reduction:: W42: Substituted raw materials[-25-49%] |

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - This material is repackaged from a tanker to totes or drums. New recovery techniques have been implemented move the past years to increase the collection of product from transfer hoses and drip buckets. Sources have been identified that can utilize the rinsate from transfer hoses and product in drip buckets. This effort significantly decrease waste generate and fugitive releases. |

Other Environmental Practices - Residual from packaging activities is now collected, packaged, and sold to customers as a diluted form of the original product. This effort has lead to a reduction and elimination for landfill disposal of rinsate and packaging residual. The facility continues to research effective and efficient means of bulk packaging and reuse of this material. |

W13: Chemical waste was further reduced by providing clients the product on an as need basis thus reducing excessive packaging and storage of the material. This was accomplished by proactively scheduling packaging around clients production needs. W32: Better unloading techniques reduce amount of waste generated. Residue in transfer lines removed by pressurized air, collected in drums/totes. Chemical residue from transfer activities is collected in clean buckets and added to containers. W42: The company has taken an active role in seeking green chemicals to reduce the toxic chemical burden in industry Source Reduction - The company employees are proactive in supporting a green initiative in providing cleaner and safer chemicals in industry. Sales team actively seeks green alternatives to clients needs. Source Reduction - Initial green chemical initiative was recommended and research by a sales team member. Employees are encouraged to engage in proactive environmental programs. Source Reduction - Various manufactures and vendors have assisted with technical information and laboratory studies to assist in decision making of green chemicals |
