W42: Lead free solder has been used in producing test circuit boards. Source Reduction - We have a lead free team working on lead free circuit board manufacturing processes. Source Reduction - The site has built test boards using lead free solder. These boards have been tested for reliablility. It is our hope that customers will approve lead free solder for use in their products in the next few years. |

Other Environmental Practices - Instituted recycling of lead trimmings that previously had gone to waste disposal. Trimmings are now collected and sent for recycling off-site. This reduced the amount of lead shipped off-site as hazardous waste and increased the amount of lead recycled. This was identified through a process improvement team. |

Source Reduction - A Site Assistance audit by the Texas Department of Environmental Quality, identified methods to better handle containers of lead / tin solder paste. This has resulted in less waste from the containers and more lead / tin solder sent for recycling. |

Other Environmental Practices - Two changes have resulted in increased recycling of lead waste as well as reduced disposal. Spent solder paste cartridges which still contained residues of lead solder and were sent off site as hazardous waste were instead accumulated and shipped off site for recycling. Second, the solder paste cartridges were then replaced with jars of solder paste which further reduces the amount of residue left in the container. This will further reduce the amount of lead waste materials. |
