Barriers: B3-Barriers to P2 B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction.
|
Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - Alcohol is a key component to the blood plasma fractionation process, the facility would not be able to make its life-saving medicine without it. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - Site utilizes denatured alcohol (95% ethanol, 4-5% methanol, <1% water) for plasma fractionation. used alcohol is returned to Alcohol Distillation Recovery System for processing and reuse |

W58: SCAQMD modified VOC calculation for ARDS which will significantly reduce the amount of alcohol (combination of ethanol and methanol) waste shipments by allowing site to recovery more alcohol on a monthly basis. Source Reduction - Site continuously monitors VOC emissions from the ARDS. Based on new calculation, VOCs are significantly reduced, thus reducing the need for alcohol waste shipments. System is monitoring by OSI PI and documented to server; waste manifests are kept within EH&S department. |
2011 | Other Environmental Practices - Due to permit update on alcohol still able to recycle more methanol on site. |
