Column Name: TOTAL_RELEASE

Description: The total amount (in pounds) of the toxic chemical released to air, water, land, and underground injection wells during the calendar year (January 1 - December 31). Release amounts may be reported as specific numbers or as ranges (RELEASE_RANGE_CODE). Descriptions by Form R Section number for each environmental medium follow.

5.1 Fugitive emissions are not released through a confined air stream

5.2 Point source air emissions occur through confined air streams such as stacks, vents, ducts, or pipes

5.3 Releases to water include discharges to streams, rivers, lakes, oceans and other bodies of water.

5.4.1 Class I wells are industrial, municipal, and manufacturing related wells which inject fluids into deep, confined and isolated formations below potable water supplies.

5.4.2 Class II are oil and gas related wells. Class III wells are associated with the solution mining of minerals. Class IV wells have an injection as part of an authorized CERCLA/RCRA clean up operation. Class V wells do not fall under I-IV and are, generally, shallow drainage wells.

5.5.1A RCRA Subtitle C landfills are authorized under RCRA to accept hazardous waste for disposal.

5.5.1B Other landfills are those not authorized under Subtitle C of RCRA to accept hazardous wastes.

5.5.2 Land treatment and application farming refer to the incorporation of waste into the soil where the waste degrades in the soil.

5.5.3 Surface impoundments include natural depressions, man-made excavations and diked areas that hold liquid wastes (Form R Part II Section 5.5.3 for RY2002 and Prior).

5.5.3A RCRA Subtitle C On-site surface impoundment disposal (Form R Part II Section 5.5.3A for RY2003 and Later).

5.5.3B Other On-site surface impoundment disposal (Form R Part II Section 5.5.3B for RY2003 and Later).
