Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Toluene is part of an ink structure used in one of our printing technologies. At this point, there has not been a reformulation to eliminate it. Additionally, a toluene blend is used to clean these parts but is also used on other parts in our parts washers. The increase in volume of work also increased the amount of Toluene used to clean.

Barriers to P2: B4 - Source reduction activities were implemented but were unsuccessful. - The plant has tried using a "Tolyfree" type of solvent over the past few years when running this print technology with mixed results. Ultimately the label has to perform for the customer. Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Using Toluene as a solvent is part of the structure of one of our printing technologies. This particular type of label requires specific pigments and solvents to properly adhere to the substrate it is printed on.

Tier boards are used to communicate any issues throughout the day. Source Reduction - Part of the intention of the in-house ink supplier is to manage the inks at the press and have ready when needed. This can help with ordering volumes, formulations, and lead times at press.
