S35: Ordering steel stock, (tube steel, flat bar and sheet) to fit our product better without having to modify or cut the steel, creating less drop (waste/scrap) and less need to recycle due to having less waste. Source Reduction - Employees are encouraged to recommend changes under our employee engagement program to find ways to reduce waste/scrap. Source Reduction - Procurement Department continually audits our processes looking for ways to reduce the amount of steel needed to build our product to reduce costs and waste (need for recycling). |

W19: Order raw materials (steel) in specific lengths to avoid drop (waste/scrap) while processing. This will prevent the purchase of excess material that needs to be scrapped/recycled. Source Reduction - Purchasing (materials) conducts routine audits of raw materials to improve supply to internal customers. Source Reduction - Purchasing reviews the needs of internal customers to better supply the best sized raw materials for processing. Source Reduction - Purchasing coordinates with the vendor(s) to supply more accuately sized raw materials (steel) after getting information from their audits and recommendations from internal customers. |

W19: Reducing the usage of steel that has lead as a component. Identifying opportunities to use different steel alloys that do not contain lead to reduce our consumption and use of lead products. Source Reduction - Vendors asked to identify alternative metals to use in our process to eliminate lead. Source Reduction - Internal audits designed to identify and reduce lead in all production components. Source Reduction - Engineering and Purchasing Departments actively investigating alternative metals for production that do not contain lead. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - All metal is recycled to prevent pollution. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Formal scrap reduction program has been set up to track scrap generation and indentify opportunities for reduction. This has identified shorter pieces that can be ordered and do not require any cutting or altering, effectively reducing the amount of scrap that is generated. |

W19: Reducing the total usage of steel that has lead as a component. Identifying opportunities to use difference steel alloys that reduce our consumption and use of lead products. Source Reduction - Engineering Department investigating alternative metals to eliminate lead. Source Reduction - Internal audits designed to identify and reduce lead in all production components. Source Reduction - Vendors asked to help identify alternative metals to eliminate lead. Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - All metal used in production is accounted for through inventory. If it is not contained in our product then it is being sent for recycling. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Trying to actively find alternative metals that do not contain lead for use in production. |

W19: Added a second Tube Laser to production. The Tube Laser is much more accurate and will allow more intricate cutting than our regular saws. This enables us to by Tube Steel in much shorter lengths because we no longer need excess material to allow for the saw usage. This significantly reduces the amount of drop (scrap) generated. Source Reduction - Lead is a small component of some of the steel we use to build our product. We are looking at using alternative steel alloys that do not contain lead to reduce the amount of lead in our recycled steel. We are also trying to make the parts more uniform so that we can purchase steel in bulk that is already the length we need for production to reduce our scrap generation and the need for recycling. Source Reduction - Scrap generation was studied and the biggest opportunities for scrap reduction were identified. This process recommended a purchase of a second Tube Laser. That purchase was approved and the new, second Tube Laser was installed. Source Reduction - Currently working with vendors to identify replacement steel alloys that contain less lead. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - We are currently looking at alternatives to significantly reduce or eliminated the amount of lead contained in our product. |

This enables us to buy Tube Steel in much shorter lengths because we no longer need excess material to allow for saw usage. This significantly reduces the amount of drop (scrap) generated. Source Reduction - The company purposely set out to reduce scrap/waste within our production. Our management team and employees worked together to investigate the best opportunities to make that happen. Source Reduction - We contacted vendors to help identify the best opportunities for scrap reduction. The Tube Laser project, (purchase and implementation), were due to cooperation between our vendor and our employees. Source Reduction - Scrap generation was studied and the biggest opportunities for scrap reduction were identified. A Tube Laser was recommended for purchase as a result. Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Lead is a component of the steel we use to build our product. By making parts more uniform, we can purchase steel in bulk that is already at the length we require. This will eliminate the need for us to cut or alter the length of the steel we use. This will reduce the amount of scrap we produce and lessen the amount that has to be recycled. |

Source Reduction - Reduce scrap by buying stell already cut to size so that we do not have to alter it in any way. Engineering is attempting to make more parts on our product more uniform to accomplish this goal. Source Reduction - Lead is a component of the steel we use to make our product. The less we cut the steel, the less scrap we generate. |

Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Lead is a very small component of the steel that we purchase to build our product. We have tried to reduce the amount of lead used in our product but have been unsuccessful. |
