Pollution Prevention Activities for Selected Chemical

Reporting Year Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information*
2022 Source Reduction:: S21: Optimized process conditions to increase efficiency
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Barriers: B8-Barriers to P2 B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible

Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - We have dedicated lines/systems to limit waste to almost zero for this product. All emissions come from blending process and sampling.

2021 Source Reduction:: S44: Other improvements to operating practices and training[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Barriers: B8-Barriers to P2 B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible
S44: For this material we have a dedicated line filler. This has been implemented and reduces the amount of waste that we use to produce from changing over from product to product.

Source Reduction - Our site is always looking to reduce our waste/carbon foot print. We have a team dedicated to reduce waste in any form.

Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - We have dedicated our lines/systems to limit waste to almost zero for this product. All emissions come from filling processes and sampling.

2020 Source Reduction:: W36: Implemented inspection or monitoring program of potential spill or leak sources[-15-24%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Barriers: B8-Barriers to P2 B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible
W36: For this specific material we have dedicated lines and equipment. We also have containers under all connections to capture any possible leaks at connection points.

Source Reduction - The site uses this material constantly and having dedicated lines and equipment was the best option to limit waste.

Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - We already have dedicated lines and equipment for this material.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - For this specific material we have dedicated lines and equipment. We also have containers under all connections to capture any possible leaks at connection points.

2019 Barriers: B8-Barriers to P2 B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible

Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - The material is used on a dedicated system. From point A to B it's all dedicated, this eliminates the need to washout hose, lines and fittings.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - For all materials on site. Containers are set under all connections that can leak or drip when materials are being processed.

2018 Barriers: B8-Barriers to P2 B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible

Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - Site has two dedicated systems that this material is used on. Waste is limited to sampling only. Dedicated hose, pipes, pumps, filter housing all helps to minimize waste from this product.

Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Dedicated system to eliminate/minimize waste output.

2017 Source Reduction:: W31: Improved storage or stacking procedures[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
W31: Dedicated system for handling the material. Less waste generated as in previous years. Currently working to move from drum storage to a tank storage. No increase in material amounts on site, just a new way to store the material. This will give us much needed real estate on our site. Will be complete hopefully October 2018.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Dedicated systems in place to minimize waste generated. (Hoses, filter housings, tanks)

Source Reduction: Methods for Identifying Pollution Prevention Opportunities - Procedures in place to help operators recognize pollution prevention requirements.(Drip/catch pans, storm drain covers)

2016 Source Reduction:: W32: Improved procedures for loading, unloading, and transfer operations[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
W32: Dedicated lines, filters, drums & unloading hoses for Ethylene Glycol.

Source Reduction - As a management team looking to reduce our waste. It was decided to dedicate equipment for the product to limit waste.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - We have dedicated equipment for this product to limit waste and fugitive emissions.

2015 Source Reduction:: W32: Improved procedures for loading, unloading, and transfer operations[-0-4%]
Source Reduction:: W39: Other spill or leak prevention[-15-24%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T10: Vendor assistance
W32: DEDICATED EQUIPMENT TO MINIMIZE WASHOUTS/WASTED MATERIAL. CURRENTLY LOOKING TO ADD LARGE HOLDING TANKS TO ELIMINATE DRUM USE AND FREE UP SPACE.
W39: Working with a non profit organization to try and find uses for our waste/flush of various material.

Source Reduction - CURRENTLY WORKING WITH A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION TO TRY AND FIND OPTIONS FOR WASTE REDUCTION/RECYCLING.

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - WORKING CORP WIDE TO REDUCE ALL WASTE AND PUSH TO RECYCLE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. ALL AREAS, CHEMICAL AND LANDFILL.

2013 Other Environmental Practices - We have implemented a recycle program that doesn't fall into any of the categories listed. Our previous disposal materials are a substitute for a commercially available product.
2012 Source Reduction:: W29: Other changes in inventory control
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T06: Employee recommendation (under a formal company program)
W29: Identified a user for the waste which designates the waste as an effective substitute for a commercially available product.

*Classifications of Optional Pollution Prevention Information shown in brackets are provided by EPA.

TRI Pollution Prevention Glossary

The Waste Management Hierarchy

The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes. The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
  • Source Reduction includes activities that eliminate or reduce the generation of chemical waste.
  • Recycling includes the recovery of a toxic chemical in waste for reuse.
  • Energy Recovery includes the combustion of toxic chemicals in waste to generate heat or electricity.
  • Treatment includes the destruction of a toxic chemical in waste.
  • Disposal or Other Releases includes toxic chemical quantities entering the environment.
The PPA requires facilities to provide the following details about each chemical they report to TRI:
Facilities may also provide optional Pollution Prevention Information describing their source reduction, recycling, or pollution control activities.
