2022 |
Source Reduction:: S21: Optimized process conditions to increase efficiency[-0-4%]
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Barriers: B3-Barriers to P2 B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. |
S21: The site continues to work on stability of the process and making small changes for stability. Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - Changes to chemical in processing requires customer approval. Focusing on yield increase for smaller modifications do not require customer approval. |
2021 |
Source Reduction:: S41: Improved scheduling, record keeping, or procedures for operations, cleaning, and maintenance
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Barriers: B3-Barriers to P2 B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. |
S41: The facility has improved preventative maintenance and operations. Source Reduction - Quality, yield, and equipment status are regularly reviewed. Preventative Maintenance is documented. Barriers to P2: B3 - Concern that product quality may decline as a result of source reduction. - Customer specifications are very specific. Changing chemistry in the process would require extensive customer testing and approvals. For existing products, this would not be economical. |

W14: Worked on scheduling to reduce waste during product runs by running product using the same mix concurrently to avoid cleaning and draining mix as waste. W52: Improved processing on equipment to reduce scrap. Also improved steps for better drying. Source Reduction - Continuous improvement activities by managment and porduction. Source Reduction - Production and operations review and implement on-going Source Reduction - Quality and operations reviews used to identify solutions to reduce scrap which would reduce use of DOP |

Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures
|
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other Barriers: B8-No Information B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible |
W13: The facility monitors its maintenance and requires tracking of completion of identified maintenance. Trends are monitored to improve PM. Source Reduction - Process improvement and continuous improvement activities. Statistical analysis to help with monitoring success of projects. Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Substitution and reduction is impaired by customer approval requirements for changes. Engineering continues to work on process optimization. R&D continues to look at opportunities for mixture and raw material options. Source Reduction: Methods for Identifying Pollution Prevention Opportunities - R&D investigates new membranes. Engineering works on optimizing the process. Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - The facility is in the process of implementing an Environmental Management system to assist with improved control. Capital projects and R&D for new membranes is on-going with the R&D team. |

The Waste Management Hierarchy |
The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes.
The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed
by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
