Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Logic continues in striving to reduce our introduction of lead into the wastestream by maintaining membership with industry groups that are actively researching andimplementing lead alternatives. Logic continues to pass this information on to our customer base through various forms including involvement in design activities. Logic has implemented customer accepted solutions that do not pose additional health, environmental or reliability concerns as the technology allows. Logic has adapted process changes and equipment upgrades to allow for no lead soldering technologies. Logic continues to maintain and improve processes and equipment that use lead-based solder in order to minimize the lead in the waste stream.

Source Reduction - Most new samples are lead free, only leaded is based on customer controlled IP. All customer products except for those used in the Aerospace industry are now built using lead free solder.

Source Reduction - As a near term goal, Logic PD wants to reduce the volume of lead waste generated through transition to more environmentally friendly soldering alternatives as rapidly as allowed by our customers designs and needs. To this end we will maintain Lead free capable processes and qualified personnel. We will recycle as much remaining lead waste as possible through metal reprocessors, and the balance disposed of through reliable hazardous waste handlers. Additionally, Logic remains active with industry groups and responds in accordance with the statutory and regulatory requirements relevant to the locations we operate in as well as those where product is destine. Designs controlled by Logic PD are intentionally lead free.

The Waste Management Hierarchy

The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes. The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
  • Source Reduction includes activities that eliminate or reduce the generation of chemical waste.
  • Recycling includes the recovery of a toxic chemical in waste for reuse.
  • Energy Recovery includes the combustion of toxic chemicals in waste to generate heat or electricity.
  • Treatment includes the destruction of a toxic chemical in waste.
  • Disposal or Other Releases includes toxic chemical quantities entering the environment.
The PPA requires facilities to provide the following details about each chemical they report to TRI:
Facilities may also provide optional Pollution Prevention Information describing their source reduction, recycling, or pollution control activities.
