We continue the practice of returning materials close to their expiring shelf life, to the compounder so material can be reworked and extending the shelf life.

Source Reduction - Several factors had impact on our lower usage of compounds that contain Antimony Compounds in 2010. 1) Dekoron's overall usage was down 13.8% from 2009 due to drop off in business. 2) Dekoron had a workforce reduction from 64 employees down to 56. 3) Dekoron made changes in the Production schedule that helped eliminate purgings and cleanouts that generated unwanted material waste.

Other Environmental Practices - All PVC compounds now sold for recycle, monies received from sale are distributed to hourly employee's as an incentive to ensure all waste is captured. Non-lead ROHS compliant compounds are currently being tested for approval to eliminate lead content from PVC compounds used during manufacturing.
2005 Other Environmental Practices - All PVC compounds containing lead & antimony are now being sold for to a supplier for recycle eliminating 99.9% of this waste being sent to a landfill.

TRI Pollution Prevention Glossary

The Waste Management Hierarchy

The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes. The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
  • Source Reduction includes activities that eliminate or reduce the generation of chemical waste.
  • Recycling includes the recovery of a toxic chemical in waste for reuse.
  • Energy Recovery includes the combustion of toxic chemicals in waste to generate heat or electricity.
  • Treatment includes the destruction of a toxic chemical in waste.
  • Disposal or Other Releases includes toxic chemical quantities entering the environment.
The PPA requires facilities to provide the following details about each chemical they report to TRI:
Facilities may also provide optional Pollution Prevention Information describing their source reduction, recycling, or pollution control activities.
