Reporting Year Section 8.10: Newly Implemented Source Reduction Activity Section 8.10: Methods to Identify Activity Section 8.11: Optional Pollution Prevention Information*
2022 Source Reduction:: S42: Changed production schedule to minimize equipment and material changeovers[-0-4%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
S42: Communicated with customer-base to coordinate demand, group orders when possible

Source Reduction - Material change overs, when necessary, are discussed during weekly production meetings
2021 Source Reduction:: S21: Optimized process conditions to increase efficiency[-0-4%]

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
S21: and reduce waste.

Source Reduction - Optimize product and tooling designs and construction. Implemented changes to training methods.
2020 Source Reduction:: W14: Changed production schedule to minimize equipment and feedstock changeovers
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
W14: Reduced material changes

Other Barriers to Source Reduction - COVID 19

2018 Barriers: B1-Barriers to P2 B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat

Barriers to P2: B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat - 2 NEW MOLDING CELLS COMING ON LINE WITHIN NEXT COUPLE MONTHS. THIS SHOULD REDUCE CHANGE OVER WASTE.

2017 Barriers: B7-Barriers to P2 B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies.

Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - CURRENTLY APPLYING BEST PRACTICES

2016 Barriers: B1-Barriers to P2 B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat

Barriers to P2: B1 - Insufficient capital to install new source reduction equipment or implement new source reduction activities/initiat - We're focusing more on higher volume customers/projects that reduce the need for material systems change over (reducing need to flush between formulations). We've invested significant resources in 2 major projects, depleting capital. Assuming the projects are successful, we should benefit financially, providing necessary capital.

2015 Source Reduction:: W19: Other changes in operating practices[-5-14%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management

Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Brought on line additional metering units (production molding machines) to reduce material change overs. This reducing the amount of flushing materials that must be reclassified to recycle scrap.

2014 Source Reduction:: W14: Changed production schedule to minimize equipment and feedstock changeovers[-25-49%]
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
2013 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures
Source Reduction:: W52: Modified equipment, layout, or piping
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)

TRI Pollution Prevention Glossary

The Waste Management Hierarchy

The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes. The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
  • Source Reduction includes activities that eliminate or reduce the generation of chemical waste.
  • Recycling includes the recovery of a toxic chemical in waste for reuse.
  • Energy Recovery includes the combustion of toxic chemicals in waste to generate heat or electricity.
  • Treatment includes the destruction of a toxic chemical in waste.
  • Disposal or Other Releases includes toxic chemical quantities entering the environment.
The PPA requires facilities to provide the following details about each chemical they report to TRI:
Facilities may also provide optional Pollution Prevention Information describing their source reduction, recycling, or pollution control activities.
