Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Currently, there are no substitutes for chemical materials. Green alternatives have been evaluated.

2018 Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Production is based on customer demand. Thus it was not feasible for a decrease. Alternative options are being sought including purchasing material already packaged rather than repackaging from tanker to containers.

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Purchasing the material pre-packaged in containers is an option being utilized in 2019.

2017 Source Reduction:: W21: Instituted procedures to ensure that materials do not stay in inventory beyond
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T03: Materials balance audits
W21: Utilization of FIFO assisted in reducing unnecessary waste generation. In addition, material is purchased as needed based on customer demands.

Source Reduction - Quarterly audits are utilized ot determine current and future customer purchasing trends. This determines the amount of material that will be purchased and stored at the facility.
2016 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-15-24%]

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
W13: ACL continues to improve its inventory accountability system. This has assisted in reducing the amount of material that is manufactured on site.

Source Reduction - Continued internal audits identify properly handling and management of the glycol and other chemical products.
Source Reduction - ACL management and employees have continued their commitment to protecting the environment through training, production management techniques, and providing comparable alternatives.

Source Reduction: Source Reduction - ACL has been proactive in seeking green alternatives to the products produced. Research and networking efforts will continue to significantly reduce or eliminate this material.

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - During production, efforts are made to recycle all material brought into the facility. Rinsate from transfer hoses are collected in totes and provided to customers as a diluted form of the original material. This technique has assisted in the reduction of waste management.

2015 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-0-4%]

Source Reduction:: W24: Instituted better labeling procedures[-0-4%]

Source Reduction:: W32: Improved procedures for loading, unloading, and transfer operations[-0-4%]

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T05: Employee recommendation (independent of a formal company program)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T06: Employee recommendation (under a formal company program)

Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - We continue to work with our customers and manufactures in finding alternative green chemical options based on the use of the material.

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - Our efforts of collecting residue from transfer hoses continues. Collected residue is placed on a drum or tote and the recycled material is offered to customers who can place it in production. These efforts continue to diminish our waste generation.

2014 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-25-49%]

Source Reduction:: W32: Improved procedures for loading, unloading, and transfer operations

Source Reduction:: W42: Substituted raw materials[-25-49%]

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - This material is repackaged from a tanker to totes or drums. New recovery techniques have been implemented move the past years to increase the collection of product from transfer hoses and drip buckets. Sources have been identified that can utilize the rinsate from transfer hoses and product in drip buckets. This effort significantly decrease waste generate and fugitive releases.

2013 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures

TRI Pollution Prevention Glossary

The Waste Management Hierarchy

The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes. The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
  • Source Reduction includes activities that eliminate or reduce the generation of chemical waste.
  • Recycling includes the recovery of a toxic chemical in waste for reuse.
  • Energy Recovery includes the combustion of toxic chemicals in waste to generate heat or electricity.
  • Treatment includes the destruction of a toxic chemical in waste.
  • Disposal or Other Releases includes toxic chemical quantities entering the environment.
The PPA requires facilities to provide the following details about each chemical they report to TRI:
Facilities may also provide optional Pollution Prevention Information describing their source reduction, recycling, or pollution control activities.
