Source Reduction - Environmental team initiated reuse
2020 Other Environmental Practices - All air emission points have mist scrubbers on them

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - F006 sludge is 100% recycled for metals recovery

2019 Source Reduction:: W36: Implemented inspection or monitoring program of potential spill or leak sources[-0-4%]

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Barriers: B6-Barriers to P2 B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas
W36: Rinse cells are checked for leaks in pressure boxes & plumbing.

Source Reduction - NYDEC mandates hazardous waste reduction
Source Reduction - Environmental team meets every other week.

Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - We currently use static dragouts after each Ni plating station that is added back to the bath for evaporation & use blowoffs after every dragout & plating station before rinsing.

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - 100% of our Sludge sent off site is recycled for metals recovery

2018 Source Reduction:: W74: Improved application techniques[-0-4%]

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T03: Materials balance audits
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Barriers: B6-Barriers to P2 B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas
W74: Woods Nickel chloride plating baths are stored & reused instead of waste treating reducing the amount of nickel in the sludge & reducing the amount of Nickel chloride purchaseed.

Source Reduction - Environmental team meets every other week
Other Environmental Practices - 100% of F006 sludge is 100% recycled for metals recovery

Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - We use gragout reclaims on every Ni installation & add the dragout back to the process tank. We also use blowoffs prior to & after the dragouts.

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - Woods Nickel chloride strike plating bath are stored & reused instead of waste treating reducing the amount of nickle in the sludge & reducing the amount is nickel chloride purchased.

2017 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
W13: We are using analytical computer software that statistically monitors the solutions with in limits. Increasing the life of the bath.

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - All nickel contained in our F006 sludge is 100% recycled for metals recovery. We are paid for the nickel contained in the sludge.

2016 Source Reduction:: W39: Other spill or leak prevention

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - All Nickel sent off site for disposal are 100% recycled

2015 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures

Source Reduction:: W39: Other spill or leak prevention[-0-4%]

Source Reduction:: W72: Modified spray systems or equipment[-0-4%]

Source Reduction - The environmental team meets bi weekly all year.
Source Reduction - The environmental team meets bi weekly
Source Reduction - The environmental team meets bi weekly.

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - Nickel is calculated from actual recycling payment for the Ni content of the sludge & is 100% recycled.

2014 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures[-0-4%]

Source Reduction:: W39: Other spill or leak prevention[-0-4%]

Source Reduction:: W72: Modified spray systems or equipment[-0-4%]

Other Environmental Practices: Recycling - The F006 sludge is sent off site for 100% metals recovery recycling. The calculation for the Ni in the sludge is now reported as continuous monitoring of the Ni content is every shipment. We were reporting it on a once a year required profile analysis. This will account for the increase in Ni release to off site.

2013 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
2012 Source Reduction:: W13: Improved maintenance scheduling, recordkeeping, or procedures

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
Source Reduction - We are in the process of being ISO 14000 certified & our entire environmental compliance system has been audited & revised. This required source reduction & recycling audits & activities. The continued use of cascading counter flow rinses, low flow spray nozzles & air blow offs have reduced water usage & nickel dragout.
2005 Other Environmental Practices - Section 8.8 is zero .We had a fire on 10/24/06. All water from the fire was contained within the building. The water was tested and approved by the potw for treatment in our treatment center. Treatment water is sent to the potw.
*Classifications of Optional Pollution Prevention Information shown in brackets are provided by EPA.

TRI Pollution Prevention Glossary

The Waste Management Hierarchy

The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes. The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
  • Source Reduction includes activities that eliminate or reduce the generation of chemical waste.
  • Recycling includes the recovery of a toxic chemical in waste for reuse.
  • Energy Recovery includes the combustion of toxic chemicals in waste to generate heat or electricity.
  • Treatment includes the destruction of a toxic chemical in waste.
  • Disposal or Other Releases includes toxic chemical quantities entering the environment.
The PPA requires facilities to provide the following details about each chemical they report to TRI:
Facilities may also provide optional Pollution Prevention Information describing their source reduction, recycling, or pollution control activities.
