Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Our facility is continuously working towards finding the best alternative chemicals for our processes. |
|
2013 |
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - in 2013 one process C-4 did reduce the use of Toluene by 5,000 pounds. This reduction was a result of product reformulation. However, we did increase the use of Toluene on another process in 2013 by 11,000 pounds from 2012. This increase was the result of our customer requirements on an existing approved product formulation and increase demand for the finished product. |

2012 |
Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Chemicla use in 2012 did not changed by more than 5% from from 2011. Concerned that product quality may decline as a result of product substitution |

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T04: Participative team management
|
W42: Toluene usage has been replaced with PVC vinyl, DMF and water base formulations where applicable Source Reduction - Team includes Purchasing, Technical, Environmental, Sales and Upper Management to bring into the facility coated fabrics requiring less toxics. Source Reduction - Toluene usage in RY 2011 reduced by 57% from RY 2010 due to change in product line. This trend will continue |
The Waste Management Hierarchy |
The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes.
The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed
by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
