S44: We are using lead free ammo. We have not transitioned completely over to using it. The entire federal government should transition to show pollution prevention. Source Reduction - Lead free ammo being integrated into annual training. Barriers to P2: B6 - Pollution prevention previously implemented - additional reduction does not appear technically or economically feas - Until the federal government requires it, people will purchase what is available. Lead free ammo is not something people actively search for, but they are looking more for it, finding it cheap will be the deciding factor. |

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Barriers: B8-Barriers to P2 B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible |
S44: Lead free ammo. The more options that become available for firing ranges, the less issues. Barriers to P2: B8 - A reduction does not appear to be technically feasible - Ammo made lead free would clean up firing ranges. Of course with the gun debate it can be used to say that ammo pollutes the environment. |
The Waste Management Hierarchy |
The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes.
The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed
by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
