2009 | Other Environmental Practices - In 2009 new carbonless paper grades were developed at the Appleton - Spring Mill. The resins used in carbonless paper contains zinc compounds. The new grades use new resins with a higher amount of zinc compounds then historical carbonless papers grades. The success of the new grade development resulted in additional tons of carbonless paper being produced at the Appleton - Spring Mill. Appleton transfers boiler ash to a mining company, TJS Mining Inc., under a beneficial use permit. The coal mining activity permit number is: 03870701. The Waste Management Hierarchy |
The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes.
The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed
by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
