Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
W58: Process improvements were implemented to minimze use of excessive materials due to rework operations.

Source Reduction - Indoor and Outdoor housekeeping improvments were implemented to minimize the opportunity for materials to reach the environment.
2012 Source Reduction:: W71: Other cleaning and degreasing modifications
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
W71: Increased cleaning frequency for aisleways to minimize track out of materials.

2011 Source Reduction:: W58: Other process modifications
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T11: Other
2010 Source Reduction:: W58: Other process modifications

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T10: Vendor assistance
Other Environmental Practices - The product line containing lead was moved to our location in mid 2009. Initial testing indicated that we were emitting lead via the exhaust stacks coming from the molten metal furnace. A Torit dust collector was intalled and became operational in late June, 2010. Testing indicates that this has resulted in a 99% drop in lead emissions from this process.
2009 Source Reduction:: W58: Other process modifications

Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T01: Internal pollution prevention opportunity audit(s)
Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T10: Vendor assistance
Other Environmental Practices - This product came into our facility in the second half of 2009. We have identified the exhausts that vent through the roof from the molten metal tanks as being the source of the lead emissions that are reflected in our air emissions reporting and the stormwater release. We have went through the quoting and approval process to obtain an air filtration system from Torit Industries that is said to be 99.9% effective at removing lead emissions. This system should be installed and operational by 7/15/2010.

TRI Pollution Prevention Glossary

The Waste Management Hierarchy

The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes. The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
  • Source Reduction includes activities that eliminate or reduce the generation of chemical waste.
  • Recycling includes the recovery of a toxic chemical in waste for reuse.
  • Energy Recovery includes the combustion of toxic chemicals in waste to generate heat or electricity.
  • Treatment includes the destruction of a toxic chemical in waste.
  • Disposal or Other Releases includes toxic chemical quantities entering the environment.
The PPA requires facilities to provide the following details about each chemical they report to TRI:
Facilities may also provide optional Pollution Prevention Information describing their source reduction, recycling, or pollution control activities.
