Methods to Identify SR Opportunities: T10: Vendor assistance
Barriers: B7-Barriers to P2 B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. |
S03: Lead is contained in the cement and fly ash used for manufacturing concrete. Slag is used as a substitute for cement and fly ash. Source Reduction - Cement usage is reduced by injecting CO2 into concrete during mixing using CarbonCure technology. The process reduces the amount of cement required for producing concrete by about 4-6%. Hence the lead emissions are reduced. Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Known substitutes have been implemented |

|
Barriers to P2: B7 - No known substitutes or alternative technologies. - Lead is found in raw materials (cement and fly ash) that are used in ready-mix concrete manufacturing. Other Environmental Practices: General Environmental Management - Daily observation of any visible emission and regular maintenance of dust-controlled devices. |

Source Reduction: Source Reduction - Lead is found in the portland cement. The carbon dioxide (CO2) is injected into concrete during mixing, where it undergoes a chemical reaction and converts into a mineral. This CO mineralization process reduces the amount of cementitious content in concrete mix designs and carbon footprint reductions. Therefore the amount of toxic chemicals entering an environment has been reduced. |
The Waste Management Hierarchy |
The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes.
The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed
by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
