2005 | Other Environmental Practices - During 2005, numerous research activities were identified which have the potential to recycle the eaf dust. Vitrification of eaf dust has been accomplished in a pilot plant to produce "Steel shot blast" which no longer exhibits the characteristics of k061 (Passes tclp). Another project targets zinc recovery. Both of these projects are being actively pursued as pollution prevention projects. |
The Waste Management Hierarchy |
The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes.
The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed
by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
