Other Barriers to Source Reduction - Facility is a hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility that receives various wastes from numerous generators. Metals cannot be destroyed and as a result total volume received is the total placed in the landfill. Regulatory limits are met prior to land disposing. |

Other Environmental Practices: Source Reduction - Facility is a hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility that receives various wastes from numerous generators. Treatment technologies include microencapsulation, stabilization, chemical oxidation, deactivation, solidification, etc. Air pollution control equipment is used onsite to minimize exposure to air. These include regenerative thermal oxidizers (destroys VOCs), scrubber (neutralizes acid), baghouse (collects particulates), etc. Source reduction and waste minimization is part of a hazardous waste TSDF business plan. Facility waste minimization plan is reviewed annually. |
The Waste Management Hierarchy |
The waste management hierarchy established by the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) guides waste generators toward the best options for managing wastes.
The preferred option is to prevent pollution at its source, but for waste that is generated, the preferred management methods are recycling, followed
by burning for energy recovery, treatment and, as a last resort, disposing of the waste.
